A passion for all things automotive

Larry Printz has been one of the nation’s top journalists for more than two decades. His automotive column, distributed by Tribune News Service, reaches nearly 17 million readers worldwide.

Larry is Assistant Managing Editor at TheDetroitBureau.com, a growing authoritative news source in the automotive world.

He was the first Editor-In-Chief at Dealer.com, the world’s largest automotive dotcom, where the writing staff grew to 43 full-time writers from 23 during his three-year tenure. Fox Business News sought him out as an expert commentator; ABC-TV 13, a Gannett Broadcasting station in Norfolk, Virginia, hired him for daily and weekly on-air automotive news coverage and half-hour TV specials for nearly a decade.

As an automotive editor and writer, Larry has worked for the nation’s top media companies, including Conde Nast, Tribune, Belo, Gannett, McClatchy-Tribune, Pilot Media, Knight-Ridder Tribune, Los Angeles Times-Washington Post Syndicate, as well as The Motley Fool, Men’s Health, Truck Trend, Ars Technica, CarFax, Cars.com, and Hagerty among many others.

His writing is even sought by automakers, including Audi USA and Ford Motor Company.

In 2021, he won three Automotive Heritage Foundation awards, after winning two in 2020.

Interestingly, Printz started his career as an art director and editorial cartoonist, redesigning three newspapers and contributing to the political discourse through his witty observations in pen and ink as well as serving on their editorial boards.

Most recently, he completed two posters for the Antique Automobile Club of America’s 2022 Grand National in Virginia Beach, Virginia.

In his spare time, Larry serves as an emcee and judge at top collector car shows across the United States, including the Classic Car Club of America, The Cavallino Classic, Amelia Island Concours d’Elegance, Hilton Head Concours d’Elegance, Greenwich Concours d’Elegance, Radnor Hunt Concours d’Elegance, Boca Raton Concours d’Elegance, The Palm Event, Miami Concours d’Elegance, Palm Beach Concours d’Elegance, Sculpture In Motion and three now-defunct shows, the Kiawah Island Concours d’Elegance, Rocky Mountain Concours d’Elegance and Pinehurst Concours d’Elegance.

And you may even bump into him wandering the aisles of antique shows or the odd art exhibit.

A native of Philadelphia, Pa., Larry is a member of the International Motor Press Association, Southern Automotive Media Association, Society of Automotive Historians, National Cartoonists Society, and is listed in the International Movie Data Base. He is a classically-trained pianist, although fairly rusty by this point.

He resides in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
